Sad Story - 6-Year-Old Girl Raped To Death Inside Kaduna Mosque

The rate at which rape crime has hiked in recent times has become so alarming that even new-born baby girls are to be protected by their parents with all alertness.

The crime of rape was in existence before the pandemic which led to the lock-down, but the rape crime hiked in the year 2020, especially during the lock-down due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The most recent incident occurrence is as sad as could be, most of the reports now has it that the rapist either kill their victims or rape them to death.

A six years old girl simply identified as Khadijah Ya’u was found dead in a Kaduna Mosque located in the Kurmin Mashi area of Kaduna.

Reports has it that the little girl has been raped to death, her body were discovered by a group of muslim men who wanted to go for the Friday prayers earlier than others.

On getting to the mosque, they saw the horrifying scene of how the six years old girl has been raped to death and left inside the mosque.

According to the residents and the police ASP Mohammed Jalige, the incident may have occurred a little longer than the time of prayer as the body was only found there at about 3pmon Friday, when people were trooping into the mosque for Friday prayers.

The mosque has been closed for the week and only opens on Fridays for prayers due to the lock-down, the police stated that investigation has been launched and the culprits would be apprehended and must face the full wrath of the law.

A resident narrated how disappointed and heartbreaking the scene was when he saw it, he stated;

Her lifeless body was found in a mosque located at New Road, Kurmin Mashi by Nnamdi Azikiwe bypass on Friday, this was when we went in to the mosque for prayers, it was horrible and heartbreaking.

The incident was confirmed by ASP Mohammed Jalige, he stated that the department have in earnest stated proper investigations into the matter and to make sure the rapists and murders are brought to book, in his words;

Jalige said;

No stone would be left unturned in ensuring that perpetrators of the heinous crime were apprehended and brought to book. An investigation into the matter has commenced in earnest. No arrest has been made. Police detectives attached to Kurmi-Mashi Division of the Command have launched an investigation to unravel the mystery. Operatives from that (Kurmin-Mashi) division received a call from a resident in the community that they saw a dead body lying in the mosque. You know since the lockdown, no mosque has been opened for worship, except for Friday prayers. They discovered the dead body around 3:00 pm close to prayer time.’

In a similar development, the European Union and United Nations have got their eyes on the increase in rape crimes in this part of the world, especially in Nigeria and in Ebonyi and Cross Rivers state.

The international bodies aired their disappointment in the rise in gender-based crimes in Nigeria, especially against the girl-child.

Ijeoma Onuoha-Ogwe, Communication Officer UNICEF, in a press statement said,

“Gender-based violence has become more common in Cross River and Ebonyi, it has become pertinent for us to expose this ugly trend and bring it to the fore in a bid to address the problem by sensitising the affected persons. “The girl child is usually vulnerable due to our laws, culture, the constitution as well as religion. We must speak about the spikes because most times, the perpetrators are insiders – family members and neighbours. “When not properly checked, they tend to clamp down on their victims without any restrictions. Lockdown has also increased female genital mutilation because many of the girls are now at home and cannot escape as they used to before the act.’’
